MyWhoosh keyboard shortcuts: shift, steer, emotes

By mattapps · Published 12 October 2026 · Last checked 12 October 2026

MyWhoosh's official page documents two keys: I shifts up and K shifts down. A third-party fan site reports more: left/right arrows or A/D to steer, 1-7 for emotes, U for minimal UI and H to hide controls. Treat those as reported and check them in the game.

Which keys does MyWhoosh use?

Only the two shift keys come from MyWhoosh itself. The rest come from a fan site, so the table says where each one comes from.

KeyWhat it doesConfidence
IShift up (harder gear)Official (MyWhoosh MyShift page)
KShift down (easier gear)Official (MyWhoosh MyShift page)

A / DSteer left or rightReported by fan site (July 2025)
1 to 7EmotesReported by fan site (July 2025)
UToggle minimal UIReported by fan site (July 2025)
HHide the controlsReported by fan site (July 2025)

The fan site's list dates from July 2025, and games change between versions. Press a key during a ride and see what happens before you rely on it.

How do I shift gears with the keyboard?

Press I to shift up and K to shift down. These are the two shortcuts MyWhoosh documents itself, as part of its virtual shifting system, MyShift.

An easy way to remember them: on a standard keyboard I sits above K, and up is the top key. How many gears there are and where a ride starts is covered in MyShift explained. This page sticks to the keys.

How do I steer in MyWhoosh with the keyboard?

The fan site reports two pairs that steer: the left and right arrow keys, and A and D. Use whichever pair is closer to your hand.

Steering is the one action where holding a key down matters. The direction should stay active for as long as you press, not fire once and stop. A physical keyboard does that naturally. Keys sent from a phone need a hold setting for the same effect.

What are the emote keys?

The number keys 1 to 7 are reported to trigger emotes. We could not confirm which number maps to which emote, so check each one in a ride.

The one mapping we can state is the one GearPad ships: its MyWhoosh layout sends 2 for a wave. That tells you what GearPad sends, not what MyWhoosh officially documents.

What do U and H do?

U is reported to switch the minimal UI on and off, which strips the screen down while you ride. H is reported to hide the controls. Both come from the same fan site, so test them before you count on them.

Do the shortcuts apply on every device MyWhoosh runs on?

This list is about MyWhoosh on a Mac or Windows PC, where a keyboard is the natural way in. At the time of writing, MyWhoosh's own docs list Windows 10 or newer and macOS 14.5 or newer for computers.

The same docs also list iOS, Android 10 or newer and Apple TV. We have no source on how keyboard shortcuts behave on those, so if you ride on a tablet or a TV box, test each key there before you count on it.

How do you check a key marked as reported?

Try it in a low-stakes ride and watch the screen. A reported key either does what the list says, does something else, or does nothing, and each outcome tells you something.

  1. Start a free ride rather than a race or a structured workout.
  2. Click the MyWhoosh window so it is the one in front. Keys only reach the active window.
  3. Press the key once and note what changes on screen.
  4. For steering keys, hold the key for a second or two and see whether the rider keeps moving across the road.
  5. If nothing happens, the key may have changed since July 2025. Check the game's own settings or help screens.

Can I send these keys from a phone instead of a keyboard?

Yes, if the phone can act as a Bluetooth keyboard, which Android apps can do. GearPad is our app for exactly this, so weigh this section accordingly.

  • Free: a ready-made MyWhoosh layout with K, I, 2 and U.
  • Pro (one-time purchase on Google Play): buttons for the arrows, A/D, the other emote numbers and H, plus an optional hold-while-pressed setting that suits steering.

Setup steps are in how to shift gears in MyWhoosh with an Android phone. To add steering or other keys to a layout, see custom keys for any cycling app.

Quick answers

Do I need a keyboard to use these shortcuts?

No. Anything that can send the same keys to the computer works, including a phone acting as a Bluetooth keyboard. MyWhoosh only sees the key presses.

Why are most of the keys marked as reported?

Because only the shift keys appear on MyWhoosh's own page. The others come from a fan site's July 2025 list, and we have not confirmed them against the current game.

Is there a key to change the camera view?

We found none documented in the sources we use, so we do not list one. Check the game's own controls screen.

Can I change which key does what in MyWhoosh?

We could not confirm either way. If it matters to you, look in the game's settings. A phone layout can still send any key you choose.
